Veridian Systems Division, in Arlington (Rosslyn), Virginia, is seeking a Marketing Communications Specialist for full-time permanent work. Job Description: Veridian Systems Division is a high technology research and development element of Veridian, tackling demanding requirements and technical problems for its customers. The focus of Veridian Systems Division is on applied research, applying state-of-the-art solutions to customer problems. We employ a highly skilled and educated staff of computer scientists and software development engineers, systems analyst, information security specialists, scientists, engineers and other information technology professionals strengthening our ability to understand problems, create innovative solutions, and design, build, and deliver modern information management technologies. Veridian Systems Division seeks a Marketing Communications Specialist with excellent communications, organizational and people skills, who is detail-oriented and capable of handling multiple tasks. A requirement for this position is hands on experience in desktop publishing, website management and newsletter production. The Communications and Marketing Specialist will handle end-to-end copywriting for all marketing and sales collateral including assisting in the development and implementation of internal communications programs. This position reports to the VP of Communications and Marketing. Detailed responsibilities include: * Responsibility for drafting and writing news releases, preparing and producing content for monthly newsletter and for website, producing marketing brochures and leave behind materials. * Assisting in the writing and/or maintaining the Corporate and division capabilities briefings. * Developing and producing marketing materials. Working with technical staff and business development staff to develop ideas, themes, focus, and marketing strategies; apply good design techniques to develop layout; and produce in-house or coordinate production with commercial printer. * Assisting in the development of strategic approaches and content for advertising to increase visibility of the company products and services and conveying its mission and message to the public and media. * Assisting in the preparation and submission of proposals and qualifications. Editing for organization; coherence; grammar; adherence to style; punctuation and spelling; word and pronoun usage; parallelism; consistency; references to tables, figures, footnotes; overuse of passive voice; clear antecedents; redundancies; wordiness; and awkward prose. Indicate need for rewriting; eliminate biased language. Job Skills: * Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field preferred. * Previous experience in defense/government environment desired. * Demonstrated high-level writing and editing ability; understanding of grammar, structure, mechanics; knowledge of USGPO & Chicago style manuals. Ability to write, interpret and analyze. * Five or more years of experience in writing, high-level editing, and publications production. * Experience with Macintosh and PC computers and related software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Quark, PageMaker). Experience with graphics, including layout, typography, color, and design (Illustrator and PhotoShop experience desired). Multimedia and Web experience preferred. * In-depth knowledge of production process. Strong organization skills. Strong attention to detail. Able to work on multiple tasks and balance priorities. * Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with all levels of staff. Positive attitude, enthusiastic, and dedicated. Highly motivated self started with initiative and reliability.
