Membership categories

There are a few membership categories. Please join at the level which best reflects your professional needs.

Professional Communicator Member
National Dues $129/year, $50 new member application fee
Washington DC Chapter Dues: $40/year professional membership + national dues = $169/year total dues

Requirements: open to professionals currently employed in communication disciplines or who hold a communication degree.

Executive Communicator Member
National Dues $189/year, $50 new member application fee
Washington DC Chapter Dues: $40/year professional membership + national = $229/year total dues

Requirements: open to professionals in communication disciplines who must have ten years or more experience are serving in an executive, managerial or senior position.

Entrepreneur Member
National Dues $114/year, $50 new member application fee
Washington DC Chapter Dues: $40/year professional membership + national dues = $154/year total dues

Requirements: open to freelancers or consultants in a communication discipline, who are self-employed and who have no employees.
Note: To qualify for this special rate, you must be actively in business, rather than simply contemplating working as a consultant, freelancer or sole proprietor. You may not be otherwise gainfully employed. Please submit either a web address or a business card along with your application.

Retired Member
National Dues $34/year, no application fee
Washington DC Chapter Dues: $20/year + national dues = $54/year total dues

Requirements: Open to retired communications professionals, age 62 or older, who work less than 20 hours per week, or age 72, regardless of employment status.

Emeritus Member
National Dues – none (not available to new members)
Washington DC Chapter Dues: none (not available to new members)

Requirements: Open to members who have been continuous members of AWC for 50 years or longer.

Faculty Advisor Member
Association Dues – none
Washington DC Chapter Dues: none

Requirements: Open to any faculty member of an accredited college or university who serves as the official advisor to a chartered and active AWC student chapter. Faculty Advisor members must meet the other guidelines for AWC Professional membership.

Collegiate/New Graduate
National Dues $34/year, no application fee
Washington DC Chapter Dues: $25/year + national dues $59/year total dues

Requirements: Open to women and men working full-time toward a degree (undergraduate or graduate) and who demonstrate a commitment to a communications career. This membership category is also available to new graduates for one year following their graduation. Graduate date and school name are required for validation. Search to see if your school is a Student Chapter.

Corporate Membership
Requirements: Corporate memberships must be purchased at either the Classic (3 members) or Signature (5 members) level. Applications must be coordinated through a single contact who will receive renewal invoices and make sure the contact information for each remains up to date. Chapter dues are charged separately. Classic ($995 plus one-time application fee of $150)
Inclusive benefits:
  • Three national memberships
  • One registration to the annual conference
  • Corporate exposure on the national website and select national conference materials
Washington DC Chapter Dues: $120/year for three members + national dues = $1,115/year total dues

Signature ($1895 plus one-time application fee of $250)
Inclusive benefits:
  • Five national memberships
  • Two registrations to the annual conference
  • Corporate exposure on the national website and select national conference materials
Washington DC Chapter Dues: $200/year for five members + national dues = $2,095/year total dues

Washington DC Chapter Dues:
Professional/Executive/Entrepreneur: $40/year
Collegiate/New Grad: $25/year
Retired: $20/year

Payment plans

There are many options for paying membership dues. Please choose one of the following methods.

To join The Association for Women in Communications, fill in the Application form and return it to the association headquarters in one of the following ways.

Online:
Fill in the online form in your browser and click Submit Form. You may pay by check or credit card. For credit card charges, the association accepts card numbers entered in the application form (the form is processed on a secure server), by telephone (703-370-7436), or by fax (703-370-7437). If you pay by check, print out the completed form and include it with your check.

Fax Modem:
Fill in the form in your browser. You may send the completed form directly from the screen using your browser's print function and choosing the fax modem as the printer. Fax it to 703-370-7437.

Fax Machine:
You may print out the form onto paper and fax it to the same number.

Printer:
Or, you can print out a copy of the application form and send it along with your dues directly to the national office:
