The Board of Directors for the Society for Technical Communication has elected our Web Diva, Cynthia Lockley, to the rank of Associate Fellow. The honor will be presented at the honors banquet at the STC Annual Conference, which will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, May 5-8, 2002. Each fall, the Associate Fellows Nominating Committee asks chapters to recommend senior members of the Society to be considered for the rank of Associate Fellow. Selection as an Associate Fellow denotes the achievements of a technical communicator in either the field of technical communication and/or the work of the Society.
To be considered for this rank, a member must have been active in the field of technical communication for at least fifteen years and a member of the Society for at least ten years. Candidates must also have done one of the following: (1) made significant contributions to the field of technical communication; (2) done original work that contributed to the advancement of technical communication; or (3) made significant contributions to the Society.
STC has more than 25,000 members and 153 chapters worldwide, and is the world's largest professional association serving the technical communication profession. The Washington, DC chapter has 788 members as of the end of January 2002.
October 1999
At the 1999 VMS National Account Services Meeting in Chicago, Valerie Merahn was awarded the "Rookie of the Year" for the work she has done in her first year as Account Services Manager in the Washington, DC Office. Earlier in the year Denise Dobbins, also of the Washington, DC office was recognized nationally as the Production Manager of the Year. Anne-Marie DiNardo was promoted to Education Communication Specialist at C-SPAN. She will oversee the design and development of the C-SPAN education web site as well as online marketing to the education community.
