Topic: WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS OF NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

Speaker: Cathy Newman
Cathy Newman is a senior staff writer for National Geographic and author of
Women Photographers at National Geographic, published by National Geographic in 2000 and released in October in paperback. She will discuss the making of the book and the history and role of women photographers at the Geographic, where there is a tradition of women photographers dating back to the turn of the century (not the most recent turn of the century, of course). Her two previous books for Geographic were Fashion, which is a cross-cultural look at how we dress, and Perfume: The Art and Science of Scent.

Cathy Newman began her career writing for the Miami News and joined the staff of National Geographic magazine in 1978. As a senior staff writer, she has covered such diverse subjects as the Shakers, trout, beauty, the English Channel tunnel, and Cape York Peninsula, Australia.
