"Diane Rehm" 2002 Matrix Awardee
For more than 20 years, The Diane Rehm Show, broadcast live on WAMU 88.5 FM, has offered listeners thoughtful and lively conversations on an enormous array of topics with many of the most distinguished people of our times. Each week, more than one million listeners across the country tune into the show. Recent guests on Ms. Rehm's show have included Vice President Dick Cheney, former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, Senator John McCain, former Attorney General Janet Reno, novelist Margaret Atwood, authors V.S. Naipaul and David McCullough, actor Sidney Poitier and U. S. poet laureate Billy Collins. Newsweek magazine calls the program one of the most interesting talk shows in the country, and the National Journal says Rehm is "the class act of the talk radio world." A native Washingtonian, Ms. Rehm began her career in 1973 as an assistant producer for talk shows at WAMU. She became host and producer of two health-oriented programs, and in 1979 was selected t host WAMU's local morning talk show, Kaliedoscope. Kaleidoscope was renamed The Diane Rehm Show in 1984. Ms. Rehm has received several of the highest honors in journalism and communications.
